You have 1 hour till darkness and while setting up your camp you realize that your only lighter cracked during an earlier fall and leaked out all the butane. Your only access to fire for warmth and cooking will rely on your alternate methods of fire starting in your gear bag. AFAP (As Fast as Possible) but must complete in 1 hour
Mission Goals:
Ignite your tinder using your backup fire making methods. No matches, lighters, or gas canisters.
(Ex. -Ferro Rod Variations, Magnesium Stick, Magnifying Glass, Etc.)
Primary Mission Instructions:
- Start your timer. You have 1 hr to complete this mission.
- Go into your go bag and retrieve all fire starting materials and separate your secondary fire starting items and tinder material and set them aside. If you don’t keep any type of tinder in your go bag then you get to go collect tinder from your yard or neighborhood. Only natural materials. No paper or man made materials.
- Once you have your tinder and secondary fire making material gathered get started and accomplish this task successfully.
- If you have multiple secondary methods or various types of tinder now start going through the next method or combo of method and tinder type. Complete as many different methods or combinations in the hour.
- Take notes for any issues you have. You will learn how easy or possibly challenging it can be to use these items. Goal is to know your skill level and your gear and its capabilities.
